Hey friends, Maura here.
Did you check out the sunflowers at Dix yet? And did you enjoy your holiday weekend? By holiday, I’m obviously referring to National Ice Cream Day. We had the biggest week we’ve had in a LONG time and are still reeling from how much fun it was. The best part is that you helped us raise $230 for Planned Parenthood on Sunday and carry on our tradition of raising money for life-saving health care access for all on National Ice Cream Day. It was also a fun kick-off to Duke’s Hot Tomato Summer. I loved seeing everyone try our Deviled Egg Ice Cream and Heirloom Tomato Sorbet… whether you enjoyed it or not. You’re brave. I’m proud of you for trying it. If you enjoyed it, you can nominate us for the Golden Tomato Award. If you haven’t tried it yet, this week’s Frozen Friday will be your last chance! Stop by Wolfe and Porter between 6pm and 11pm. Bring a friend or 10.
I’m sending today’s email out to our entire mailing list to provide some major updates (if you didn’t know, I try to keep our weekly menu and pop-up emails separate when there aren’t any major updates to avoid clogging inboxes without your consent — you can sign up for weekly event emails here.)
First of All:
We made it into the Top 2 for Raleigh News & Observer’s Best Ice Cream in the Triangle vote! Because you voted for us (and probably also because my mom voted for us a lot), we’ll be getting a news feature to share our ice cream with the greater Raleigh community. This is a big deal for a small business, so I want to thank you sincerely. And thanks Mom!
Next Up:
Our Frozen Fridays just got a bit longer. My partner Tim is getting us started at Wolfe and Porter on Friday evenings by setting up at 6pm while I’m at work down the road! On Fridays, he gets up at 4am to bake bread for Raleigh at Boulted, so be extra nice to him. He’s tired but excited to meet you. He’s got a weekly flavor feature on our menu, so ask him all about it.
And Finally:
We’re now serving sourdough cones! I may be biased, but I think they’re the best cones we’ve ever made. With grains & starter from Boulted Bread and a balanced sugar blend, they have a lovely flavor and texture. We soft launched them last weekend and they flew, so we’ll be bringing extra with us this week. Be sure to ask for one and, once again, thank Tim for his service. We’re pretty sure these are the only sourdough cones in the Triangle, so they’re truly something special.
Thinking of coming by this weekend? You can see us at Wolfe and Porter on Friday nights from 6pm to 11pm. Here’s this week’s menu:
P.S. Please ignore any messages you get about “upgrading” your subscription on Substack! We were asked by a few regulars to activate a paid version so that they could support us through the platform, but we aren’t gatekeeping anything behind a paywall here. I am currently brainstorming some fun tasting party and secret pint drop perks for those who do want to contribute in that way— but I wanted to make sure you all knew that I am only using this platform to spread the word about our pop-ups!
